Week 2: My experience with Foursquare and QR Codes

As I mentioned on my last post, I couldn't register on Foursquare because I didn't have a good smartphone. But now I do and I would like to share my personal experience with Foursquare and QR Codes.

I found very easy to register on Foursquare, especially when you already have a Facebook account. It was very nice to see all the options of places I can go, but the most interesting part for me was that I can go on my friends' profiles and I can check all the places they have checked in. Great tool to find out all the places your friends went and didn't invite kidding :)

For the QR Codes, I already knew how they work, so I didn't have any surprises. I downloaded the app and scanned QR Codes that I saw at the mall or on food packages. It is for sure a great tool to give extra information to people.

Week 2: Exploring QR Codes

Unfortunately I couldn’t scan a QR Code or register on foursquare, because I don’t have access to an IPhone or an Android. My smartphone broke a few months ago and I decided to use a simple phone until I could get the IPhone 5, which will happen this week. So, I will post my experience using these tools as soon as I get my new phone.

But I explored a few examples of how QR Codes can be used in PR strategies:

  •  News Releases with QR Codes: instead of adding an image, we can add a QR Code that after scanned, it will bring readers to the company’s website. Or, in case of a news release about a new smartphone app, the QR Code allows readers to scan, download and use the app.
  •  QR Codes on clothing tags: QR Codes can also be a good strategy for clothing companies that produce sustainable clothes. The QR Codes on clothing tags allow customers to understand how the items were produced and why they are sustainable. This strategy would increase customers’ awareness of a company’s responsibility with the environment.
  •  On invitations to events: a QR Code can direct people to a website where they can RSVP.

Week 1: What is the social web?

Welcome to my blog about social media in public relations! I hope everybody enjoys reading my posts!

During our first class, we discussed about the most used social platforms, its audiences, time consumed in each one of them, and my favorite part - the purpose of social web: successful community relationships! After searching about the subject, I found a good video that describes in a practical way, how social web can influence people and build relationships.
